Squash (Racketball)

Our Squash Club

Worksop Squash Club was opened in 1979, as an addition of the Worksop Cricket and Sports Club Family.

Squash and “English Racketball” (Squash 57) are both exciting, fun and challenging sports that can help you stay fit and are accessible to all ages and abilities. As an indoor sport, independent of the weather, we can (and do) play all year round! Even on the coldest winter days our powerful Ambi-Rad heaters ensure that our two courts remain at a comfortable temperature.

Squash Facilities

Both courts have high quality sprung floors with an overlooking viewing gallery. In fact, we take pride in our reputation for having very for well-maintained courts and work hard to keep them in excellent condition. Following the 2019 floods, the entire squash section was fully refurbished, with new squash court floors and walls, and redecoration and new carpets throughout.

Our changing rooms and Gym benefit from air conditioning and our small but comprehensive gym includes two new running machines, together with a selection of mainly aerobic equipment. This area is unsupervised and intended for adult members to train, or rehab after an injury etc. at their discretion and risk. Many members also make use of the attached sauna after a game.

The facility is managed on a voluntary basis by members voted onto the Squash Committee at our Annual General Meeting, held in November. We welcome all members to this. Our Chairman and Treasurer report progress made during the year, and we invite suggestions as to how the squash club could be improved

Play Squash or Squash 57

We hold a “club night” every Sunday from 6.20-8.20 pm where you can come along and meet new friends to play either traditional Squash or Squash 57.   Both are played on the traditional-sized squash court and the rules are almost the same.

Squash 57 is becoming increasingly popular with players who have previously played squash but perhaps struggle with the physical demands.  The ball and racket are both larger and as this ball has more bounce, rallies can be longer and played at a slower pace than conventional squash.

Coaching for both is available by arrangement from Mark Sissons (SRA accredited coach).

Court Booking

We consider ourselves to be a friendly and welcoming club and work hard to maintain the facilities in the best possible condition.  It is essential that players treat the equipment and courts with respect and so it is essential that NON-MARKING INDOOR COURT SHOES MUST BE WORN on the carpeted area and courts only.

Entry to the squash section is via a unique fob that will be issued upon receipt of your application and fees. The corridors and entrances are monitored by CCTV. The application includes an agreement to abide by the squash section club rules. The fob is also required to enable the light meter to function.

Courts are booked using the new on-line booking system. This is exclusively for members, who are invited to register for access to the booking diary.

You should always reserve your court before turning up to play, even for quiet times during the day. The terms & conditions of your membership have changed recently to reflect this.

Once booked you are then entitled to play on the specific court at the time chosen, regardless of whether anyone else is already playing.

Worksop C&SC is a thriving sports club situated in the centre of town within walking distance of the shops, bars, and restaurants. Your membership includes a 10% reduction on bar purchases and use of our private car park, when using the club facilities. Each member will be issued with a single parking permit that must be displayed when visiting the club.

From time to time, we hold social events and enjoy friendly banter with the other sections. So, if you fancy either taking up a new challenge or even returning to play this fantastic sport on some excellent courts, then drop by and check us out. We would love to see you and show you around our club.
